vpn access

On a Windows2000 server we've configured vpn pptp access.
From inside the network it is possible to connect to the vpn. The problem
is that it won't connect from outside the network (internet).
It begins the connection, gets to the poing where authentication is done,
and stops there.
Port 1723 is open, also protocol 47.

We made a test and configured a pptp vpn incoming connection on a XP machine
(which is on the same network as the win2k server), and surprisingly we
could connect
to it from outside without a problem.

What can be the problem with the server ?

Thanks.

What's the VPN error code? Also any error in the server Event Viewer?

It gets to the stage of "Verifying username and password..", and after a minute or so
there's error 721 - the remote computer did not respond.
Event viewer on both client and server shows nothing.

Thanks.

I thought about it, but as I stated before, vpn connection to a XP machine which is on
the same network as the 2k server works flawlessly.
So I think it can't be a router problem.

Any other ideas ?

Thanks.

May be a firewall issue. Check the firewall on the client machine.
Check the network firewall as well if the client is on a LAN.

1) Is NAT configured on the server?
2) Check if firewall is switched on in the server.
