I have a machine that died today. Will not reboot hangs
at he windows splash screen. Tried to boot it into safe
mode and it freezes after loading the mup.sys file. I
wiped the hard drive and unable to reinstall from the
original cd. It freezes at the starting windows 2000
screen during install. I ran the COmpaq diag on the
machine no errors. Swapped memory, video. removed all
other pci cards. Stil can't install from the cd. booted
off a windows 98 floppy ran fdisk removed everything
created new partiton formated stil dies at the same
place.

From looking on the news groups this is not a uncommon
problem

any clue on a fix

Sounds like an ACPI issue.

Early in the install process, when advised to hit F6 to install additional
drivers, Hit the F7 key <---- not a typo.

This will force Windows 2000 to install using a non-ACPI HAL.
