Windows 2000 Server Licensing question

Peter Afonin

Hello:

I have a question about Win2k server licensing.

I set the licensing mode to Per Seat. We have 35 PCs on our network, so we
need at least 35 CALs. Also, occasionally people from our parent company in
another city are connecting to our server. The Licensing tool treats them as
users, although they may connect only once a month. Do they need CALs as
well?

I would appreciate your suggestions.

Thank you,

You need a CAL for each 'seat' (computer) accessing the server. All
licensing questions are best asked of MS directly, tho.

Thank you, Peter.

Yes, per seat mode basiclly you need one for each computer that will
connect to the server even if it's once. You may have want to set it to per
Server mode if you only have one server. Per seat is more for multiple sever
since the seat cal will let you access more the one of your servers. Win
2003 server even has a new mode per user which is nice. Check this page out
