terminal server licensing/access question

I'm working with a client that has stood up a TS licensing server (and I
think they havent activated it). CALS are installed (50 of them).

I actually have a couple question:

1. If licensing server has not be activated, do you still get 2 concurrent
logins (for remote admin) on a TS that is running in Application Server Mode?
No CAL issued or anything.

2. The TSL server in question is also a TSS that the Development team
accesses. I am running a metaframe (PS3)...one of my MF servers can connect
to this server via TS using ANY user account. But my other MF server can
only connect to that TSS from specific user accounts. I cant imagine the
correlation. I would think if it were a licensing issue (which I do suspect)
that it would affect ALL users coming from ALL MF servers.

Any thoughts on that piece?

thanks

Hi,

You will still get two concurrent connections for remote admin access.
What kind of errors are you getting when the users cannot connect to
the TS?
Could it be the fact that you have installed these licenses as per
device instead of per user?
It very well could be a licensing issue as you state it works for some
users but not others.

Well, the licensing server was built by another group of folks and when
questioned if they installed Per Device or Per User, they didnt really know
what I meant....So, I assume and I believe by default, they would have been
Per Device.

I believe it to be a licensing issue, but not exactly sure what kind of
licensing issue...

is there a method for seeing in one of the win2k admin tools whether the TSS
and TSL servers are running in Per Device or Per User licensing mode?

Hi,

Well one thing first, is this TS W2K or W2K3?
How about the TSL, is that W2K or W2K3?
What you can do on the TS from admin tools is to open up TSL and check
the mode the licenses are installed.
You can then cross reference that with going into TS configuration and
validating that these two match....This is only possible on W2K3
Is there any error the users receive when they fail to connect to the
TS, if so could you please post them.
