Windows 2000 Server Issue

I am unable to add new hardware. When accessing the Add/Remove Hardware
wizard within the Control Panel I received this error: You do not have
sufficient security privileges to install or uninstall devices on this
computer. Please contact your site administrator, or log off and log on
again as an administrator and try again. Server has SP4 installed and I ran
a virus scan which came back clean. The error does not make since to me,
because I am using an administrator account when acccessing the server. Does
anyone have any ideas?

Two ideas that may not work but are worth a try:

1) Use the REAL (original) Administrator account instead of another one.
(Shouldn't matter but sometimes it seems to do so.)

2) Try a REPAIR install from the original CDROM by selecting the
CURRENT "Windows" directory and ENSURING that you both
get the PROMPT and CONFIRM that you wish to do the repair of
the existing system.

You will need to apply the most recent Service Pack (SP4) again right
afterwards and any other hotfixes but sometimes doing this straightens
out weird and intermittent errors. (It's a trick worth remember to get
you out of all sorts of trouble too.)

Let me know if it works for this.

Thanks for the info. I will try option 2 and hopefully that will work.
Option 1, I have already tried.
