I'm afraid this is incorrect. During the installation process,
Windows 2000 will ask you to enter the administrator's
password. Maybe you just hit enter - in which case your
admin password will be a blank. You can try it out:
Log on as "administrator", then use a blank password.

If this gets you in, do some forward planning and create
a second admin account. This newsgroup is full of posts
from people who failed to do this. Later, when the admin
password changes for some reason, they find themselves
locked out of their own machine.

How does one creat a second admin account? And how can one be sure that the
password won't change in the second account if it can with the first?

You create a second admin account in exactly the same way
that you create any other account, then give it admin privileges.
The process is explained in detail here: Start / Help / Search
tab / type Create Account / Double-click "Security Overview" /
open up "User Accounts".

During the past 8 years I have dealt with several thousand
WinNT & Win2000 PCs. I have never come across one that
changed its password by itself. Until I see one, I assume
that such events are in fact caused by user ignorance. The
OP's case is typical in that she claims that she never
entered a password during the setup phase. She did, of
course. Having a second (or a third, if you like) admin
account makes it extremely improbable to be locked out.
