Windows 2000 Licensing Problem

We are experiencing Event ID 202 errors on an infrequent
basis. Approx every 10 days.
When we access the Licensing program and look at
the 'Client's Per Seat' , we can see 'old' entries that
have appeared and thus cause 'Licensing errors'.
We have to delete all the 'users' that for example no
longer work for us.
We wonder if this is some form of replication error. We
have a DC and a Data Server that would act as a backup DC.
How can we troubleshoot this problem to understand where
the 'old' data is coming from.

John,

Typically you can ignore this error and disable the licensing service.

John,

This is a very common problem. Article Q194065 "How to reset license
manager throughout an enterprise" explains how to get rid fo the old
non-existent servers from the License Manager list. (This will get rid of
all information in License Manager.) You will probably also want to read
Q824196, which will explain what License Manager can and can not do. I will
also recommend that you disable the License Logging service on all machines
to completely eliminate any problems of this nature in the future. (It is
disabled by default in 2003 and the rumor is that it is going to be
completely removed in the next version of the OS.)
