Windows 2000 Install to 300GB (mirrored drives)

R

Ryan

Hi,

I am trying to install W2k Server on a system with two 300 GB drives
mirrored using an LSI ATA card. I have the latest drivers/firmware for
the card. I am using a Windows 2000 server disk w/SP4 intergrated in if
that matters.
So, I install the OS, and it seems to go OK....a little slow during the
GUI setup. However, when I boot the system and look in the event log, I
get the errors below. I know this is just a W2k 'bug' because I can
install Windows 2003 and it seems to be fine. I've tried enabling the
big LBA switch in the registry to try and get rid of the errors in the
event log, but nothing works. Overall, the system seems fine, other
than it can grind to a halt at times and I assume it's to do with the
big drives. I'm just a bit nervous about the stability of this system,
and would love to be able to get rid of these errors. Ideally I would
like to just have a big 300 GB partition (assuming I can fix the
errors). Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Ryan.

Win2000 does not support IDE hard drives larger than 128GB during setup
even if SP4 is integrated. This MS Knowledge Base article has more
information:

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=305098

What you can do is install to a smaller partition, enable BigLBA, create a
second partition, and then mount the second partition as a folder on your
system partition.
