windows 2000 hangs at logo screen

When I start up the computer, Windows 2000 hangs at the
logo (splash) screen. I usually need to restart 2x before
I can get to the logon prompt. After I logon, sometimes
the computer freezes as it is trying to load Norton
Utilities. I do not remember installing any new software
recently. I don't know how to begin to troubleshoot this
problem. Any suggestions?

edit your boot.ini file. add switches /sos and /BOOTLOG, search google for
'boot.ini switches'
