Windows 2000 freezing during startup

When I start loadind Windows 2000, it gets as far as the Windows 2000
Professional screen and the starting blue squares go up to 13 and the syustem
then freezes about 80% of times and I have to power off and restart loading
process until it finally progresses past this. What part of system is
generally failing?

It would be best if you posted to a windows 2000 newsgroup. This one is for

Why are you asking a Windows 2000 question in a obviously named Windows XP News Group ?
