XP install freezes during sata drive install ?

Tim

Can't figure this one out...I have a new sata (Maxtor 500) in my box...I
have W2000 installed on the primary IDE drive. Trying to install XP on my
new Sata...can get it to format via setup...and have the sata drives floppy
available...but...it has frozen during install 6 times !

Usually freezes up during 'loading files' phase...but once got all the way
to the splash screen with the five buttons...froze during the #3
button..."installing windows"

Tried installing Windows 2000 on the sata drive...installed fine. Formatted
the IDE (with the old W2000 installation) and XP installed fine on the IDE
drive...no freezes ?

Anyone have an idea why I can not install XP Pro directly to the Sata
drive...?...I have all the drives...etc...but XP install continually freezes
during the copying files and/or splash screen after starting windows message
?

Thanks, Tim R

I seem to remember that when I set up a mates sata drive I had to press f6
during instalation to install 3rd party driver which was on a floppy that
came with the sata drive.

yes...taht's correct...I have the floppy disk...you couldn't get to the
"installing files" part of the installation without it !

My problem is the isntall starts copying all the files...ie...installation
of XP begins to the sata drive...but during this stage...after
verification...etc...the system freezes ? It's not the isntall disk cause
it installs fine to an IDE drive ?

Make sure the settings are correct in the BIOS.
Run memtest86+, all tests.
SeaTools diagnostics. (seagate accuired maxtor).

You must check the BIOS settings in order to tell the PC that the SATA
can be used as a boot device. The settings are dependant on which
chipset the motherboard uses. Check with the manula or the
motherbaord manufacturer's web site.

hardware settings in bios are all set correctly I think...sata enabled, seta
drive primary boot drive, raid disabled, memory works fine...XP Pro sp2
installs fine and runs well on the IDE drive...Seta drive visible and
functioning as "d" drive on IDE installation ("c" drive)

Have also tried install with ide drive disabled/disconnected from
system...same problem ?
