Windows 2000 Dial up Problem

Hi. my friend's computer is running Windows 2000. Well, today when
she tried to connect to the internet (via dial up connection), it
popped up with "error 797" basically saying that the modem isn't
installed. I checked the cable and it was plugged in at both ends,
and the device manager is saying the modem is installed. Can anyone
please help me with this. Thank you

Hi DJ,
1. Go into device manager, right click the modem and choose uninstall.
2. Shut down
3. Unplug and reseat your friends modem in the motherboard
4. Restart
5. Reinstall driver - found new hardware dialog should come up

that should do the trick

Go into Safe Mode and *make sure* the modem isn't in the device manager.
