Windows 2000 Desktop

I have a Windows 2000 machine that has a lot of folders
and files saved to the desktop. Recently when the user
attempts to open one of the folders, the screen will just
go black and then the active desktop error will appear.
The files open fine, it is just the folders. Anyone have
any ideas?
 
I've currently got the same problem. Just happened today.
Someone please help us out.
 
I got the same problem: desktop blinks, but files do not open. Any idea on how to fix it?
