Hi,
I have installed a windows 2000 Active Directory server.
How do I added my existing Windows NT 4.0 PDCs into the
2000 AD?

You can't, that is if you have created a new domain with AD. But you can
migrate resources (users, computers etc...) into the new domain.
If you wanted AD in your existing NT4 domain you must do an upgrade of your
PDC.

Dear Jimmy,
Thanks for your response.

what I have to do to bring all NT4.0 PDCs under 2000?

Babu,

You can not! By installing WIN2000 AD you have created a new domain / tree
/ forest that is completely separate from your existing WINNT network. What
you need to do is one of two things ( to be very brief ):

You can keep the WIN2000 AD domain that you have created and use ADMT v2 to
'migrate' all of your user, group and computer accounts over to the AD
Domain ( you just need to make sure that the target domain - the WIN2000
AD - is in Native Mode ).

You need to do an in-place upgrade of the WINNT 4.0 PDC ( this is very
explicit - not a BDC. That would not really help you. You must do this on
the PDC ) to WIN2000. This will upgrade your current WINNT 4.0 domain to a
WIN2000 Domain.

Of the two, the second is probably the easier while the first is probably
the cleaner. I might suggest that you do a search in this NG to find the
steps for doing either. Both are very common questions here. However, if
you have any questions please feel free to post them....

I'm not sure what you mean with "under 2000". Do you want to upgrade them to
2000 or do you want them to be part of the new 2000 domain?

Hi,
I basically want the NT4.0 PDC to be part of the 2000 AD

Thanks in advance

You can't make a PDC member of a Win2000 domain unless you upgrade it to
Win2000.
If you already have created a Win2000 domain you must reinstall your NT4 DCs
in the Win2000 domain as BDCs, you can't "switch" domain membership on NT4
DCs. If you have a Win2000 domain in place and want to install a NT4 BDC
(maybe because of legacy apps) you must pre-create the BDC record in AD with
Server Manager before installation of the BDC.
If you can't/wan't to do that, you need to upgrade your existing NT4 PDC to
Win2000.

/Jimmy
