when starting IE or windows explorer how do you get the
window to open in a maximized condition?

Do not use the Maximize button. "Grab" the corners of the window and drag it
to full size. Close the program. When you re-open it, Windows will remember
the last screen size used.

Create a shortcut
right click the shortcut
click properties
in the "Run" drop down menu select maximized

if you want to use the IE shortut on your desktop instead of
the original:

right click in the desktop
click properties
select "Desktop" tab
click "Customize Desktop" button (ALT+D)
click the "General" tab
unselect "Internet Explorer" radio button (ALT+I)
click ok
click ok
original IE icon disapears from desktop
rename the shortcut if you like
