When I open the browser, it opens full size. However, when I click a link or
switch sites in the browser, the window always open to a small size and I
have to resize it. Is there a setting to control the default size?

i'm not sure if this applies, but when i shut down
windows and/or have a window minimized or close it while
minimized, windows will remember this.

Open such a link.
Don't use the maximize button.
Stretch the edges/corners so that the window fills the screen.
Close all other IE windows.
Close the stretched window.

IE remembers the size of the last Normal window closed.
