I have a folder called $win_nt$.~bt. Is this folder safe
to delete? It's over 10 mgs big. I just recently
upgraded to XP home and I removed the old windows backup
with the disk cleanup. But this is a heafty folder.

where is this file located on the hard drive? Did you
tell xp when upgrading to save old system files in case
the upgrade failed?

Greetings --

That's a temporary folder created during the installation of the
OS or possibly a service pack. It should have been deleted
automatically at the conclusion of a successful installation. You may
safely delete it.

Hi Bruce

It's never deleted after any of my installs - have to manually delete the folder.

That's most curious. I've never seen the folder remain unless
something interrupted the installation process, or unless I didn't
reboot when prompted. I wonder what we're doing differently from one
another? Or do you suppose that there might be a minor difference
between the ways the English-UK and English-US operating systems
behave?

BTW, congratulations on your selection as an MVP. ;-} It's
well-deserved, even if we haven't always agreed on everything.

Hi Bruce

English-US is the default - I have to change various options during the install. That could be the reason why the $win_nt$.~b folder doesn't delete.

Thanks for the congrats. - we have had our 'non-agreements', yes, but I reckon it's been about 50/50 - yes?
