Hi,

a friend of mine, using XP Pro-SP1a has not been able to boot completely :
he goes to windows start then a message comes out stating :

----
Stop : OxOOOOOO8E ( 0xC0000005, 0xBF814358, 0xBA611A24, Ox00000000)
Win32K.sys adress BF814358 base at BF800000, Datestamp 3f731954

Usual cryptic message for non highly initiated.

Any idea what that means and how find cause ?

check the video adapter. bott to safe mode by pushing f8 key, choose safe
mode> go to device manager> and disable Display adapter.

Haven't been able to boot in safe mode.

His adapter is a Geforce 6800 one ( PSU is 500 W so
shouldn't be a power supply problem).
The adapter has already functionned very well for 3 weeks.

I have restored an image of system partition, and that got
Win XP to work again, with same hardware. Could it have
been a driver problem ( he had installed a video codecs
collection ( codecs all in 1 v1602) the day before
problem, and had not rebooted since. PC hadn't run during
night ( thus shouldn't be overheating of GPU either).

Any other ideas ( in case that happens again, and better
yet, to avoid it ) ?
