XP Blue Screen stop error 0x0000008e and win32k.sys error

Sedona

Turned on my computer and received Stop error messages 0x0000008e,
(0xc0000005, 0xbf803ea8, 0xf89157c4, 0x00000000) and win32k.sys address
bf803ea8 base at bf800000, datestamp 48025f2a. I cannot start my computer in
safe mode, it just keeps going back to the same "blue screen". Any help is
greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Some driver is failing. Disconnecting unnecessary hardware might get it to
boot, then let you add stuff back one at a time. The 'official' way to find
the driver is to use a debugger to identify the driver by using the second
argument to the error (0xbf803ea8) as the address of the process run by the
driver.

What debugger does a person use? I've seen this before in XPsp1, only after
several reboots was able to boot to safe mode and change ATI video driver
back to windows default. This time not sure which driver to blame? Still
suspect video. Where is a good place to start to learn to debug at this
point. I can boot a windows preinstall version thats it, can also see all the
files. If I can maybe corrupt the video driver windows might try to use it's
default??? Any ideas.

Thanks
Kevin

Not much more I can tell you. If it will not start, and since a repair setup
does not work with SP3 (unless you can slipstream a setup fileset), you
would have to have a system backup to go back to. I have not yet tried to
slipstream SP3 into my setup files yet, but I don't imagine it's much
different than the first two service packs. If you accomplish this onerous
task, you can run a 'repair' setup from a boot to the setup CD you
slipstreamed to include your current service pack level.
