win32k.sys - blue screen

My Dell computer was working fine, then without warning it restarted, but now
it's in a boot loop (?). It shows the black screen with the little blue
squares saying that Microsoft Windows is loading (it shows this screen for a
longer than normal amount of time) then just before it's about to show the
log on screen, it goes to a blue screen for only about 2 seconds, then it
restarts again. It does this over and over and over. I have tried all the
choices on the startup menu trying to get to safe mode--same thing. The BSOD
goes by so fast that all I can read from it is that there's a problem with
win32k.sys. Any ideas on what to do next? Thanks.

Please post a copy of the Error message. However, be warned . They are
difficult to interpret.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click
on the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties,
Advanced, StartUp and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck
box before Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

There will also be Error Reports in Event Viewer. Please post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report
complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the first paste
after exiting from Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

I can't post a copy of the error message because it doesn't show it for
longer than a couple of seconds. Windows never starts, so I can't do any of
the things you've suggested. I can't even get to safe mode with or w/o
command prompt. I guess my next move would be to try to reinstall a new copy
of XP???? Thanks anyway.
