ok, have been getting a error that comes up occassionally. basically
sometimes when i start my comp up it comes up with generic host service has
to close. i gained more info and it says its something to do with svhost.exe.
but when this fault occurs not sound card will no longer function correctly,
and if i go into multimedia settings it says i have no sound card at all.
also have noticed that since this has started happening my comp takes alot
longer to start up. have scanned using mcafee and found nothing, also scanned
with panda active scan and that found nothing. also scanned for spyware using
microsoft anti spy ware and that found lots of stuff but fixing these never
sorted my problem. i read somewhere that this was due to some hp drivers but
was told how to disable them but never helped either. can some one please
help as it is a pain in the bum

1) Download the following three items...

McAfee Stinger
http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

Trend Sysclean Package
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/dcs.asp

Latest Trend signature files.
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/pattern.asp

Create a directory.
On drive "C:\"
(e.g., "c:\New Folder")
or the desktop
(e.g., "C:\Documents and Settings\lipman\Desktop\New Folder")

Download SYSCLEAN.COM and place it in that directory.
Download the Trend Pattern File by obtaining the ZIP file.
For example; lpt406.zip

Extract the contents of the ZIP file and place the contents in the same directory as
SYSCLEAN.COM.

2) Disable System Restore
http://vil.nai.com/vil/SystemHelpDocs/DisableSysRestore.htm
3) Reboot your PC into Safe Mode and shutdown as many applications as possible
4) Using both the Trend Sysclean utility and Stinger, perform a Full Scan of your
platform and clean/delete any infectors found
5) Restart your PC and perform a "final" Full Scan of your platform using both.
6) Re-enable System Restore and re-apply any System Restore preferences,
(e.g. HD space to use suggested 400 ~ 600MB),
7) Reboot your PC.
8) Create a new Restore point

The last 3 days, I'm experiencing too the exact same message/error. The last
thing I have done was to perform the windows updates available on february
(11 critical updates if I remember correctly). Am very courious if this is a
virus/trojan problem, I'll try that and I'll come back with the results.
