1. Use a firewall.

2. Keep up-to-date at Windows Update.

3. Update your virus definitions, then running a full system scan, daily.

4. Avoid P2P apps like Kazaa and Grokster.

5. Use spyware-avoiding software like SpywareBlaster
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html or Spyguard. Update it
regularly.

I've got Kazaa on my machine - but I haven't used it in months.
Instead, I surf the web, so I guess I'm picking up spyware there.
I've got Spyware Search and Destroy open when I'm on and am always
running it. Does anybody have an idea of effective it really is? It
warns me when I'm on a page that wants to load adware, but even after
I asked it to be blocked, when I run the scan the stuff has loaded
itself anyway. Is it really worth running all the time - I mean does
it really work at all? Also, even if I don't use Kazaa or even run it
in the background, should I get it off my machine anyway? Right now
I'm using winMX.

How often do you update SpyBot S & D?
Get rid of Kazaa.
