I have an XP and Win2k LAN, My XP pc can access all Win2k
folders and files but my Win2k pc can only see the Xp
computer name. I have setup the printer for sharing and
numerous folders. Both pc`s are in the same workgroup. I
can ping and ICS works with the Xp pc as host

Hi

Can you explain the scenario with more details. Not quite clear as to what
did you mean by "Win2k pc can only see the Xp computer name".
I would like to know how many machines are there in the LAN or is it just
these two.

Thanks

There are only these two pc`s
If I open up "computers near me" I can see the icon of the
computer (XP pc named Compaq) but if I click, I get an
error box titled Mshome (this is the workgroup)
Logon Failure: the user has not been granted the requested
logon type at this computer

Hi

Environment:

===========

The server is a server in a workgroup.

Resolution
=========
Make sure the user's name/account is granted "Access this computer from
network".

The same applies to a member server in a domain.

Click Start and go to the control panel.

Open Administrative tools and go to local security policies and then to
local policies to find User Rights Assignment.

At the top of the policies is a listing for "Access this computer from the
network"
and if you open it you will find all users that can access the computer
from the
network. Make sure everyone is on that list, and if it is not, click the
Add User
or Group button to add it in. In my case, the customer only had
administrators,
and this blocked the guest account from accessing the shares.

If this does not work, running the network setup wizard may also fix this
problem
but I have not tested that yet. As always, before running the wizard,
create a
system restore point before you run the wizard in case the result is not
desired.
