Win2K TS & Win2K3 TS Licensing

I have an employee who is getting the temporary license message when he
connects to our VPN and uses Terminal Services to access our Citrix
server (windows 2000 Server). I have done some digging and have found
that in our Windows 2003 License server his laptop is listed in
Temporary Licenses for Windows 2003 Server. Can anyone explain to me
why this is happening? The laptop is WinXP Pro. He connects to our
network via the built-in VPN client and then uses either TS or the
Citrix Client to access the Citrix server.

Thanks,
Jason

It seems that the user has connected (or at least tried to
connect) to the Windows 2003 server (which also runs Terminal
Services, it seems). That has caused the 2003 LS to issue a
temporary 2003 TS CAL to the client.

Deleting the temporary license from the client will probably solve
the issue.

Without knowing more about your setup...

2003 can hand out licenses for a 2000 TS (device licenses). Your 2000 TS
will attempt to get licenses from a DC by default. I'd double-check the 2000
TS to see which server it is looking to, to get licenses. If you need to,
you can reg-hack it to look elsewhere.
