Win2k Teminal Server Licensing Server not found?

Hi,

I had a Win2k Server running terminal server and licensing server, it was
working fine before. Later, i've changed the name of the win2k terminal
server. After that, some computers cannot connect to the terminal server
through remote desktop, error msg is " ... error in the licensing protocol."
Then I go to Administrative Tools -> MS TS Licensing Server, error msg popup
"No Licensing Server found."

Anyone can help me?

Thanks,
Andriod

Maybe you have hardcoded the name of the Licensing Server in the
registry during the initial configuration of the server? If so,
you'll have to change it there too:

Hi,

I've checked the registry and there was no default license server entry. I
tried adding the "default licensing server" in the registry but that doesn't
solve the problem. The workstations still receive the same error msg.

One thing that i want to note here is that the computers used to login to
the terminal server before the server name change can login without any
problem, but they can only access with the public ip. Any thoughts?

Many Thanks,
Andriod

Sounds like you have a DNS problem.
Check all of your EventLogs, on the Domain Controller as well.
I assume that this Terminal Server is a member of a domain? If so,
I would remove it from the domain, delete the computer account and
then rejoin the domain again.

Hi,

Yes, the terminal server is a member of a domain, i have remove it from the
domain and rejoin the domain last nite, it works for all computer to login,
but then terminal server licensing still cannot see the terminal server.

right now, the terminal server licensing only sees the domain controller as
a non-activated server (by the way, terminal services is installed on domain
controller as remote mode). i tried adding the existing terminal server by
the name, ip.. but still can't find it. should i reinstall the terminal
services licensing? my concern is will the license that was registered
before be erased? Any thoughts?

Many Thanks,

Andriod

Are you saying that after you rejoined the Terminal Server to the
domain, all clients can connect without error messages or other
problems?

So the only problem that you see is that the TS Licensing Wizard,
when you run it on the Terminal Server, doesn't see the TS
Licensing Server as activated?
What about when you start the TS Licensing manager on the LS
itself? How about the licenses? What happens when you delete the
locally stored license from a client and then connect twice? Does
the client get a temporary license on first connection and a
permanent one on the second connection?

Sorry, my wording was confusing, here's the scenario, hope you can understand
my situation a little bit more details.

1. Clients can connect to the terminal server without any problems at the
moment.

2. When i'm on the TS server, TS Licensing did not see the TS server, it
only sees the domain controller. When i tried connect the TS server, error
msg saids license server not found.

3. When i expanded the DC under TS Licensing, i can see that the DC issued
temp licenses for any new computers that login to the TS Server.

4. i'm not sure what you mean by "when you delete the locally stored license
from a client and then connect twice," can you show me how to delete the
locally stored license?

PS: the TS server was a DC before, it was replaced by a new DC. I did a
dcpromo on the TS server, rename it and make it a member of a domain.

Right now i'm concerned with the licensing problem because i'm afraid once
the temp license expires, people cannot logon to termianl services and i need
to take 12pack of tylenol when that day comes......

Thanks for your help,
Andriod

OK, just to make sure we cover all the basics: you have installed
the TS Licensing Service on the Domain Controller, correct? And you
have activated it? Can you check this when you are logged on to the
console of the Licensing Server itself, not on the TS?
And you have installed TS CALs on it (if you have clients that need
a purchased TS CAL?)

If you already can see that the Licensing Server on the DC is
issueing temporary licenses, there's no need to delete a license
from a client, we already know what will happen afdterwards. But
