Win2K PRO and Drive Access Passwords

I just built a PC and have installed Win2K Pro on it. It is in a Workgroup
setup. The two other computers on my simple home wireless network are
Win98SE. On these Win98SE machines I have password protected each volume
(Drives A, B, C, D...) so if anyone wants access they have to type in the
password. Is there a way to do this for each volume on my Win2K machine?

I know there is a security tab in control panel and you can check on and off
the various ways you want to let someone else on the network have access to
each drive, but there doesn't seem to be a way to simply password protect
them. I know Win2K Pro is a different animal from 98 so I expect a bit of
a learning curve. Any thoughts appreciated.

Windows 2000 uses a concept called user level security. It is much more
secure than share level security (password on shares.) Simply edit the
access list. If a user account is in the list they'll get access.

Thanks Rob, that's what I suspected. How do I identify each computer that is
allowed access when I edit the Win2K access list? If, on each Win98
computer, my only startup logon is, say, "user", is that what goes into the
access list? Or is it the machine name as Network
Neighborhood/MyNetworkPlaces sees it, such as "M2e5o3"? Thanks.

You control access by user logon, not computer. Simply create a user
account on the 2K PC. Instruct the users to log on to the 98 PC with that
account.
