Win2K not recognizing CD Drive

G

Guest

I have a Win2K-Pro machine with a generic CD-ROM drive installed. It has
worked in the past and is still shown in the Device Manager.

When I run Windows Explorer the CD-ROM no longer shows up as one of my drives.

Does anyone have a clue as to why this happend or how to fix it?

Check Device Manager for error codes. Also check Disk Management to see that
it has a drive letter assigned.

Hi William - You can give this a try:

The "standard" fix for a "lost CD" is to use the procedure from KB
314060, here: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=314060 Please read that
article.
As always, backup your Registry before making any changes.

Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11C
E-BFC1-08002BE10318}

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11C
E-BFC1-08002BE10318}

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Quit Registry Editor.

NOTE: After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value, if
you notice lost functionality in a particular program, such as CD recording
software, you may need to reinstall that software. If the problem recurs,
consult with the software vendor for assistance.

Restart your computer. Then see where you're at and post back.
