Win2k loses boot volume drive letter

Charles

I am having a hard time finding an answer I desperately
need. I plugged a backup disk into my pc that was a
previous bit-copy of the operating system disk (win2k) and
turned the machine on.. Somehow, win2k got confused (I am
guessing) on which volume my login and passwords are kept
(profile stuff) because it won't even let me login as an
administrator. I can, however, login as administrator from
the recovery console (strange that it recognizes it from
there). Problem is, I don't know what to do once I get
there. I don't know which file of the "image" disk to copy
over to the system disk that will make it find my profile
(or the admin profile for that matter). The "image" disk
is a little old and previous to some hardware changes, but
otherwise the user login's are all the same.

Note: the system disk's drive letter was F. That's what a
previous reinstall about a year ago made it. Go figure.
Anyway, being my real boot at F and the image drive at C
must have scrambled something. What, is the question, and
how do i fix it?

I am really messed up about this. Can someone please help?
