Win2K KB 322913 - WM_TIMER Messages May Stop Being Delivered to Programs in Windows 2000

S

Steve

"WM_TIMER timer messages may stop being delivered to programs. This
may cause portions of programs to stop working. For example, if a
program updates a window when it receives a WM_TIMER message, this
window updating stops."

Does anyone have any further detail about the above issue?

Does it manifest itself in one process or more?

If a program stops responding to timer messages, is terminated and
restarted, would the new copy respond or would the Windows have to be
rebooted?

We are trying to ascertain whether an issue we have is realted to this
but in our situation, starting a new copy of the application solves
the problem.

Thanks in advance,

Steve.

Hi Steve

This should fix it: (from
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;322913):

RESOLUTION:

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft
Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number
to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;260910

There is as well a Hotfix available for this Issue. More information about
it here:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;322913

Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4) Homepage:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/servicepacks/sp4/default.asp

When you decide to install SP4 be sure to choose to archive the files as
this will allow you to undo the update in case any problems should occur. Be
sure to have made a backup of the whole system before applying SP4 anyway.

Hope this helps. Regards,

Fabio
