programs stop working in Windows Vista

Several programs I have stop working after a few minutes I get the following
message "Program_name has stopped working. Windows can check online for a
solution to the problem". Two programs I have I get that message as soon as
I start the program. I found an available update that addresses this problem,
but when I try to install the update, I get a message that this update does
not apply to my computer.
Suggestions? thanks

Replace Norton with the free AVG http://free.grisoft.com/ or Avast
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html, and Windows Firewall and Windows
Defender. Disabling Norton is not enough. You need to completely uninstall
it. If it doesn't solve the problem, get rid of Norton anyway. Norton is
known to cause many problems in Vista and they don’t always appear
immediately.

i understand that, but I have had norton for years and all these programs
have worked. I did not have any problems until I bought a laptop with vista
on it.

do you think that norton is the issue? Even if the problems did appear until
vista? If so I will give it a try and remove Norton/. Just don't want to
remove something I paid for id I don't have to?

As I said earlier, I did find an update on Microsoft update windows beta 2.
but it said that update didn't apply to my system.

solve your problem you can always reinstall it, however it's just a matter
of time before Norton causes a problem.

Assuming you restarted your computer after uninstalling Norton.
Search your registry for "Symantec". If you find anything delete it. Backup
your registry first.

Well, I don't know what to say. My PC and my laptop all have the exact same
programs running on them. The only variable is the PC has XP Pro and the
laptop has Vista Ultimate.

The programs that stop working on my laptop work fine on my pc. but thanks

That is why i specificaly asked about Vista in the original message. I
figured it had to do more with Vista than anything else. Still haven't found
a solution, although I have found lots of people posting messages about
programs not working.

A difference in the OS is a huge variable!

Well, I don't know what to say. My PC and my laptop all have the exact
same
programs running on them. The only variable is the PC has XP Pro and the
laptop has Vista Ultimate.

The programs that stop working on my laptop work fine on my pc. but thanks

I tried the suggested solution. Your solution was to uninstall Nortom. As I
said in a reply to you, I did just that and as I said in my reply to you, it
did not work.

As for Problems and solutions, I got zero help. windows reports that there
are no solutions for the problems

As for the programs they are

AOL Software; CLCapSvc; CoPilot Routing Software; Download Accelerator;
Internet Explorer; Logitec Desktop messenger;microsoft office; microsift
office outlook; pando; SPCSCM MFC Application; The weather Channel
Interactive Consumer Application Software; Windows; Windows Defender Command;
Windows Explorer; Yahoo Messenger. Some have only 1 or 2 occurrances while
othere will not even load and everything in between. Between all of them
there were 271 problems reported to microsoft, and including thier own
software seems to have no solution.

As for the "mental masturbation", you jumped on the norton bandwagon as the
root cause of all evil. When I said that it did not appear that norton was
the problem, your response was to get rid of it any way, because sooner or
later ir will be a problem. That may or may not be the case, but it is not
the cause of the problem that I am currently experienceing.
