Win2k fresh install boot issues

Hi,

I recently decided it was time for a reinstall.
I have two backups of a clean installed done with norton ghost.
I didnt know which was which so i loaded one, but upon booting, it hung at
the end of the blue progress bar loading phase. i fiddled for a bit, but
gave up, loaded the other backup, and everything worked.

I just got a new HD for xmas, so i decided id do a proper fresh install.
However, it is now doing the same thing as my other backup. (that backup
worked when i made it)
It must therefore be a hardware issuse, however the event viewer in safe
mode, shows these errors:

Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7001
Description:
The System Event Notification service depends on the COM+ Event System
service which failed to start because of the following error:
No attempts to start the service have been made since the last boot.

Event Source: DCOM
Event Category: None
Event ID: 10010
The server {1BE1F766-5536-11D1-B726-00C04FB926AF} did not register with DCOM
within the required timeout.

what does this mean? its a fresh install.
Are these the things stopping the boot? or are these additional errors?

Any input on this would be great

Thanks a lot!
