Win2000 Pro won't install

My attempts to do a clean installation on an AMD 900/30 gb
hd have failed. I keep getting an error that a
file "failed to copy" during the setup phase. The hard
drive formats OK and the the files start to copy to the
HD, but fail...sometimes only a few, sometimes many.

I changed out the CDROM, hard drive, removed each memory
stick (128, 64, 64) and tried the installation each time
with no luck. Prior to the attempted Win2K installation,
this PC was running Win98 with no apparant problems.

Anyone have any ideas how I can resolve this delima?
Thanks
Mike

You didn't mention the drive controller (possibly SCSI, or ultra DMA, or
ATA100, or raid, or serial ATA), but you may need to boot the Windows 2000
setup disks or CD-Rom and *F6* very early and very important (at setup is
inspecting your system) in the setup to prevent drive controller detection,
and select S to specify additional drivers. Then later you'll be prompted to
insert the manufacturer supplied Windows 2000 driver for your drive's
controller in drive "A"

If you wait and then S to specify additional drivers, then it may be too
late as Windows 2000 Setup at this point may have already assigned the
resources your drive's controller is wanting to use.

Thanks Dave, I'll give that a try tonight. I have the
driver CD that came with the motherboard.

- Use a different CD.
- Copy the CD to the hard disk, then run setup from there

Same thing happened to me. There was a fingerprint on the CD. Wiped it off, installed OK....
