Win2000 Advanced Server Hangs on Reboot

I have a Windows 2000 Advanced Server that has not been patched (accept for
IE 6). When I install SP4 it goes great finishes up and asks to reboot. On
reboot the stupid thing hangs on the Windows 2000 Server splash screen. I
have absolutly no idea why. Have been able to boot into safe mode and
uninstall SP4 and is back to normal, but I really want to succefully patch
this server to current levels. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try updating Windows Installer first (InstMsiW.exe from the Microsift
site) - maybe that will help. There were issues with the installer early
on..

OK, i tried downloading InstMsiW.exe from the Microsift site, but when I
tried to install it the message I got was that the service was allready
running. After posting I installed SP1 succesfully, and was able to
succesfully intall all of the critical updates, and suggested drivers and
everything else accept SP2, SP3, or SP4. All these SP's hang on reboot at
precisely the same spot. I am beggining to wonder if I have some hardware
(NIC, Video adapter etc....) that became unsupported at the SP2 level. I have
a 3COM 3c905B-TX NIC, and a 3DFX Voodoo3 2000 Video card?

It really seems like it is hanging on a driver load of some kind.
