Win Xp Updates

How can you tell if Win XP is doing an update ?

I am not sure of what to look for in the Event Viewer and the only way that
I can track the modem activity is by using the NetStat command and
displaying the current connections.

I am on a dial up connection and 2 days after I upgraded my system to WP Pro
I find that I have modem activity that I can't explain and I am not sure if
it's a Windows update or a worm sending out stuff.

There has been no notification of infections by Vet my anti virus program.

you can know if the windows update service is running or not by opening the
task manager the choose (Processes) tab and if you found a process named
(wuauclt.exe) running then the windows update is running.
and for protecting your self from worms you can install a firewall.

thank you

Thanks for that , yep , I have wuauclt.exe running at the moment , so it
looks like Windows is doing an update.
