Win XP unstable

Win XP has become very unstable , some times crashing to a black screen
Sometimes throwing up an error message to send to MS.
When refused regains lost Tab

All MS updates have been installed virus scans etc

What action can I take to make it stable agin

well, one of the first steps you should
take is to boot up in safemode and analyze
system performance from those enviroments.

if windows is stable in the safemodes,

then you can do some modifications
and tune-ups while in safemode that
will help boot normal mode.

to initiate the safemodes, bring up the
special boot menu by rebooting the
computer then holding down the f8
key.

Please explain exactly what you mean by "virus scans etc." What
anti-virus program did you use? What version of it? Is it up to date?

What is in the "etc."? Do you run anti-spyware programs? Which ones?
What versions? Are they up to date? Anything else you've done in the
"etc." category?

Please provide the exact verbatim text of the error messages you've
gotten.

What edition of Windows XP are you running--Home or Professional? What
service pack level is it at?
