After installing on to IDE channel 0 partition 0 I
discovered the system letter is now F:

The disk management tool, of course, will not allow me to
change the drive letter. Is there any other way I can get
it back to the conventional drive letter C:?

Thanks in advance
Chris

Chris,

it is possible, but extremely awkward to change the drive letter
on the partition where the system resides. The reason is that
there are many references to the drive letter in the registry,
and some may even be in other untold configuration files.

Therefore it is better to remove the cause, i.e. remove all
removable drives, then remove the partition and install anew
into the free space.

Did you ever get an answer. My installation of XP Pro did the same thing. It change my C drive to D and D drive to C. Now I am confused!!!!!!!!!!!!!
