Cannot change drive letter

I had the following hard drive partitions set up:

Drive 1:
C: Boot partition
D: Second non-boot partition
Drive 2:
E: Partition 1
F: Partition 2

I needed to reinstall Windows, which I did on C. Now I find the drive
letters have changed to:

Drive 1:
C: Boot partition
F: Second non-boot partition
Drive 2:
D: Partition 1
E: Partition 2

I'm not sure why it's done this. And when I try to change Drive F to
anything else, I get a "cannot change system or boot partition". Why is
F now a "system" partition, and does anyone know I can change the drive
letter (since all programs installed there "think" it's drive D).

Try disconnecting the second drive and then set the drive letter.

No luck - I still get the following error:

"Windows cannot modify the drive letter of your system volume or boot
volume".

It is a basic Windows setup situation. The second HD will start with "D" and
if You had a 3rd HD that would become "E" and the balance of the partitions
will fill in as yours have done.

Presumably I'll have to do a reinstall, but keep my second hard drive
unplugged. Then, Windows will assign C to the boot
partition, and D to the remaining partition?

Go to Disk Manager and see what window shows for second partition on first
hard drive.
Does it cal it a system partition? If it does that is why you can't change
it.
There is a way. someone else provided but let's see what you have first.
