win xp, remember password check box doesn't work

I have a virtual directory created in IIS 6 ( "Windows Authentication" is
the authentication method )
When a user connects to this virtual directory from win2000( with IE 6 SP1),
the
option to remember password works but..when the PC has installed winXP( IE 6
SP1 ) it
doesn't work: when the user authenticates the check box "remember password"
appears available but soon it does not remember it..
some idea?
