i have a new dell inspiron 1150, equipped with xp home. I bought a new copy
of xp professional to upgrade the laptop, for remote access purposes. When i
put the disc in the dvdrom/cdrw drive all it does is spin...its continually
trying to read the disc. Heres the kicker, any other disc i put in the drive
works just fine. I also put this xp professional disc in my desktop computer,
and it works fine. Does anyone know of any compatibilty problems with xp o/s
that dell puts in their computers and just a regular microsoft upgrade disc.
i am very confused, and have tried many things like turning of virus
protection and all that. Any help would be appreciated

If the disc can't be read, and the CD-drive is good, it's a duff CD.
Take it back to the store and get it replaced.

Hi,

I had problems before with DVD drives not reading certain discs for some
reason..
If you have a cd writer in your other computer you could try copying the
disc and see if the copy works.. Other than that a new CD may be in order.
