Just yesterday I installed the recommended patches for
XP. After rebooting, I now have a problem with MS Word
97. The problem is associated with the "open" function.
Tyring to browse through the C drive's folders to identify
the needed document, the "Open" window vanishes before I
find the document.

I have run the virus checker; all's well.
I have scanned for trojans with AdWare, all's fine.
I have scanned and defragmented; all's fine.
I have rebooted and then reinstalled MS Office 97,
rebooted, and still the problem persists.

Is there a way to fix conflict problem?

And, if anyone knows, it this message sevice designed for
users to help each other, OR does MS technicians provide
solutions. Seems a group of clients trying to resolve
their difficulties with MS issues is no less than the
blind leading the blind. *ranting over*

Try locating the file in Windows Explorer or using Start - Search.

What Icon shows for the file? It should be the Microsoft Word icon.

What happens if you double-click on the filename in Windows Explorer
or in the Search Results window?

Good luck
