Win XP PRO User Accounts????

I am not sure when this happened or exactly why but my "users" are created
with new accounts. For example I created a account "Firstname LastName"
and that was the name of the folder in Document and settings on D: drive.
Now for whatever reason it has created on it own "Firstname Lastname .
machinename" as my storage folder in document and settings. i.e.: Jim
Smith.jsmith

Only trouble that I now have is all my favorites and documents are in the
old "firstname Lastname" folder and new folder has none of that!

I recently was creating a slipstreamed SP2 Windows XP Pro disk using
original XP Pro disk and of course needed to install Dot net framework to
use the suggested program (do not remember program for sure but did do the
job!!!) so I do not know if that is when it happened!

How can I return back to my original folder so my favorites and such are
there?? I tried renaming the folder from Win98 dualboot but it just ignored
and created a new folder so that did not work! As a stop gap I manually
copied all of the missing info but it seems I get errors and I am curious if
possible due to this quirk or if something else happened to cause this??
Newly created account have same odd behavior. Any suggestions??

I'm not positive but I believe it creates the Firstname LastName machine
name when there are two users with the same login on the same machine.
Either because it exists on the domain or just on the local machine. If you
want the other folder then you will have to login with your original
password if you've changed it or you need to login to the local machine
rather than on to the domain. Or vice versa.
Let me know if this works.

I had only 2 users on this machine myself and wife. As a test I logged
on with her password and now she has the same odd thing happening, where now
I have a second account of her name. I cannot seem to access this other
account in any way other than browsing to it. There are no other accounts to
log into.
Any other ideas would be great but it is not pressing as I am doing a
reinstall of my operating system, just want to know the how and why
(although I am not sure!!!)

Did you by chance do a reinstall of XP?

I use FileSync (www.fileware.co.uk) to copy favourites etc. between account
folders. Works great.

Funny you asked if I reinstalled XP...Yes I did as my hard drive has
been losing clusters and I could not start the machine and did a reinstall
over previous. I did not notice this problem until 3 weeks after
reinstalling so that could have been the culprit?? Any way to change it
back to not using the dot name that it now has??
I am going to check out your suggestion on file settings transfer
program!

I've seen it do this, that's why I asked...

Things start to get messy at this point. You may consider shovelling
everything over to another disk, wiping the current one and reinstalling
fresh, then re-creating the accounts and migrating the data back.

I am going to check out your suggestion on file settings transfer
program!

It's an excellent application, and very fast.
