default user files

Some time back I noticed my default user files were gone. I don't know
what happened to them but they are gone. Anyhow I had read in the
past that these files were needed to create new files for new user
accounts, and recently I had need to create some new user accounts and
I set out to find how to restore the default user files. I could not find any
real definitive info on this but basically I copied the All Users files to a
folder I created (in Documents and Settings) named Default User. I then
deleted out some of the files within the subfolders that seemed to apply
only to the All Users folders. I left the Desktop.ini's since looking at them
in a file viewer they all seemed the same, but deleted the temp files and
any favorites I did not want in a new acct.
It seemed to work, but I am curious if there is a better way to do this?

You should back up all your user accounts and keep the backup files on a
separate partition or, even better, on a second drive. TEMP files could
even be stored on a third drive.

no better way to restore the files if they are "gone" ?
