WIN XP NOT STARTING UP PROPERLY

I start
my computer, log in as any of the users (Admin rights or
restricted) and the desktop comes up with the background
only. No Icons or tool bars. Also pressing the Windows
key will not bring up the start button. I can press the
ctrl-alt-del keys to bring up task manages and end the
supposed running explorer.exe and restart it. This
restarts the services (I guess) Desk top icons opens and
the bottom taskbar loads up..(Starts)... But once I
restart the cpu the problem is right back.
I tried checking for viruses and ad-awear6, No virus and
cleaned up all ad-awear6. But same problem persist. I
went into safe mode and logged in. XP boots up properly
in safe mode, so I tried to perform a System Restore in
Safe Mode, but once done, system advises it cannot
restore to date/time I select. I've tried different dates
and this still doesn't help.
I've went into msconfig and disabled all startup items,
rebooted but still having same problem..

What can I do????

You have an install Malware program called Winpup on your
machine. There are a few things that you can do to fix
this problem.

C:\DDM or C:\Program Files\DDM

You need to bring up your processes CTRL ALT DELETE and
stop SYSU.EXE and then delete that folder called DDM

After that, you're going to have to clean your registry
of all the DDM keys...and there's quite a few.

Here's the other way...or less intrusive way to get rid
of it if you're wary of editing your registry.

Make sure that your anti-virus is up to date and do a
full system scan. WINPUP is a known Malware and it should
find it. You also need to go to www.lavasoft.com and
download the free version of Adaware 6 Personal. Update
it after install and scan your system for malware and
spyware. It also will find any and all instances of
WINPUP.

Had this lil bugger on two laptops and a desktop in the
shop. I went the regedit way but I found other with this
problem that scanned their systems with anti-virus and
Adaware to get rid of it.

Good luck

I'm having the same problem. I talked with Microsoft but
they couldn't come up with a solution other than sayiung
there must be an unsigned driver problem. I did
everything you did and even did a reinstallation of
Windows XP. I keep getting a small window popping up.
Across the top it says PROJEECT! The after the yellow
caution symbol it says Run-time error "53" File not
found. When that message comes up, which is seldom, the
desktop items will appear by pressing the OK button. But
when there is a computer restart, I'm right back to the
blank desktop.

I hope somebody suggests a solution. I'm using my laptop
to access the Internet.
