Win XP HOME

Could someone with xp HOME edition please tell me if you have the repair
option that I read so much about in these forums? I don't mean the one where
you have to be a computer expert and type in all of the commands. I say HOME
because I think that maybe it was not put on the home edition of xp. So
anybody with the pro edition could not answer my question. Thanks to anybody
that could verify this for me.

I don't know exactly what you ask.
I do have xp home with no repair option in windows.
I can boot from the cd drive and the xp home cd which does have a repair
option.

You need the OEM CD to have the repair. If your XP is on a Recovery CD from
another manufacturer, it probably will NOT have the REPAIR file. For it is
compressed and no way to address it singlely (How the Hell do you spell
Single ly ?)
If I am wrong, I would love to be corrected, for I have searched high and
low and was never able to find it either.

Not sure what you mean by repair option, but with retail intallation
CD's they are the same for XP Pro and Home for repair options. The only
difference is that ntbackup is not installed by default in XP Home.

When booting from the CD after bypassing the first repair option which
would lead to the recovery consosle, both Pro and Home present a repair
option to repair the current installation. This really means a
reinstall over the current installation.

If you don't have a retail version of XP Home, then what is available
depends on what type of OEM version you do have.

Sorry but I didn't word that question better. I have an original store bought
copy of Win XP home. I keep reading in the forums about booting with the cd
and going past the first repair option to the second install windows or
repair, and my cd does not have the repair option. Only install windows. I
was wondering if I have a defective disc or if it was not on the home
edition. Thank you

The second "repair" option comes when Setup displays any currently
installed versions of Windows. You select the current installation on
the screen, and then press R (which, as the instructions on that
screen tells you, will repair the current installation).

Note: You may have to replace your service packs and/or post-service
pack hotfixes and patches after this.
