Win XP Home Startup Disk

Larry Noble

Got my new computer with XP-Home. It did not come
with a Startup Disk as the W98SE had. Is it necessary to
have this disc for emergency startup? My backups will be
put on dvd disks. Will the DVD still work if "C' drive is
out of order or formatted? If necessary, how do I
create an emergency disc?

Please excuse me if this has already been akked and answered.

Larry;
A boot disk should not be needed since your install CDs are bootable.
Check your manual and/or contact the manufacturer for details.

The above has come in handy. See this MS KB link as an example:

Normal repair or reinstall of the XP System is done after booting its
CD. As to restoring from DVD disks that depends on the software used to
create them. Some packages make the DVD set bootable so it boots and
does a complete restoration, some make their own bootable floppy - what
are you using?

If you have a Windows XP installation CD, it's bootable, and
that's your emergency startup disk.

If your hard drive is NTFS, it will be invisible if you boot from
a diskette (at least without special software), so a boot
diskette is not generally useful.
