Win XP Home - Protecting folders over the network

I have a PC with XP Pro (which is my base machine) and I have a laptop with XP Home (which is my travelling machine - XP Home not by choice). I have purchase a file syncronisation utility which allows me to monitor a folder on the laptop and once it is connected it will sync the two

The problem I have is that XP Home only allows simple folder security which means I can share the folder but this makes it accessible to everyone on the network!!! How do I share this folder so that only my pc can access the files and everyone else on the network is restricted??

I have tried to update the forceguest setting in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa to "0" but this has had no effect (unlike XP Pro

I have converted my filesystem from FAT32 to NTFS and still have had no effect

How do I ensure the integrity of my data over my network???

Please help!

You will need to log into the laptop and then sync from
there to the Pro. The other way around will have the issue
you have outlined, as Home is permanently in simple sharing
mode and there is not built-in way around this.

I can't tell you how annoying that is ... Now I'm really upset. Why would Microsoft even market such an inferior product? I can't believe the store shipped this laptop with that os...

What can I say ?
They made decisions on what consumers (used to Win9x
that had no filesystem security) compared to professional
users would need. For what it is worth, with this force
guest appeared toward the end of beta, I was vocal about
it not being a good idea; but the thinking apparently was
that something very simple was needed for the consumer
market.
