Microsoft say the XPhome was not designed to logon to a
domain

They DONT say that you cant

Does anybody know how to logon an XP home unit onto a
domain

XP doesn't use domain logins. You are restricted to workgroups only,
but you *might* be able yto use a workgroup with the same name as the
domain for some functionality.

Yes thats right - You can see the domain, and sub domain
but without the login there can be no permissions hence no
functionality ...
Any more ideas?

Well, the *best* is to use a workstation operating system and not a
home one. Have you tried a NET USE with a username yet?
