WIn XP Home Ed. Locks Up

I am running Win XP Home Ed., installed as an upgrade to
Win98, and it includes SP1a. The system frequently locks
up, even after a fresh reboot with no apps running. Do
others have this freeze-up problem?

I've been very frustrated by explorer lock-ups when network resources like
mapped drives are not connected. It seems like explorer will lock up
waiting for something while it tries to locate a mapped drive. When
explorer locks up, it effectively locks the whole of XP. Do you have mapped
drives?
