Win XP Browser Internet Access Problem

I have recently upgraded a machine to Win XP HE from Win 98 SE. The upgrade
was successful. The computer is part of a home network with 3 other machines
that remain running Win 98 SE. The Win XP machine is hardwired to 1 of 4
wired ports on a US Robotics 8054 wireless router. Two of the Win 98
machines are attached to 2 of the other wired ports while the third Win 98
machine is the only one with a wireless connection. All computers access the
Internet via a DSL modem that feeds the wireless router.

All computers can access each other on the network, can access the web
through an IE browser and send/receive e-mail. My problem is as follows. The
Win XP machine works fine on start-up - all the prior listed functions
operate properly. However, sometime later - and the time varies from hours
to minutes, the XP machine fails to access the Internet through IE. It comes
up with a "can't find the site" message. If I open the Local Area Connection
Status window in XP and repair the connection (even though it says the
connection is operating fine) the machine can then access the Internet
through IE again until it fails again some time later. When this problem
occurs the computer can still send and receive e-mail via Outlook 98 ans
still see the other computers on the network. It does seem tha it will not
update a newsgroup either unless the connection is repaired.

This problem is limited to the Win XP HE machine. It is not seen on any of
the 3 Win 98 SE Machines. Does anyone have any idea why this problem is
occurring and have any suggestions for a solution? Thanks.

Google for sources of lspfix.exe and winsockxpfix.exe. Run both on the
affected computer. These correct errors in winsock and layered services
protocols that can cause these exact problems.
