win xp all good except for modem

I have a Sony PC GR505CT, and tried to put Win XP pro on
it, everything was fine, except the modem. Instead of
having the modem connected to com 1, it went to com3, and
I couldn't dial out from that. Any ideas on why this
happened and how to fix it??

Check the book that goes with you mainboard and BIOS about how to change
COM-ports...

Is this an internal Modem, if so they frequently will use Com3. Com1 (and 2)
used to be reserved for the external serial port(s) on a computer, so many
modems would assume com3 as the first available port to use. Even though a
lot of laptops don't have serial ports, the modem will still be set to com3.
We just got a bunch of Dell notebooks with internal modems and are all
working at com3. This, in itself, shouldn't be a problem. Are you not
getting a dial tone? Have you tried the diagnostic test in the modem
properties?
